Cowboy Dressage

You’ve got the arena to yourself, so you settle your horse into a nice warm-up jog, moving along the rail. Then you reverse direction, maybe do some circle, ho hum.. Learn warm up exercises that will freshen your workout for you and your horse. While getting out of the same old rut, by learning simple Cowboy Dressage moves, you can also improve your horse’s responsiveness, suppleness, and muscle tone all while polishing your own horsemanship skills. Tuesday will be on foot as you learn the pattern. Demonstrations on Friday morning.

Dance - Advanced Western

For the cowboys and cowgirls that want to learn more than just line dances. Partner dances including: two-step, cowboy cha cha and more.

Dance - Beginning

Get ready for the barn dance on Thursday night by learning how to do traditional horse camp dances and more.

English Horsemanship - Basic

Participants will learn the basic principles of English riding and the balanced seat and will be able to practice them under instruction. The following skills will be covered: proper English tack and equipment, warm-up exercises, posting at the trot, correct diagonals, riding over trot poles, riding the canter, etc. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle or Kimberwick bit. Riders must attend all three sessions for continuous instruction.

English Horsemanship - Intr/Adv

Riders will continue to improve balance and seat and learn proper jumping position. Will work over trot and canter poles. Diagonals will be practiced. Riders must attend all three sessions for continuous instruction.

Equine Soccer

This class will introduce advanced riders to an exciting activity. It is structured after regular youth soccer. Your horse will be introduced to a large ball that will be moved from goal to goal for points. Those participating in these classes will be expected to compete in the game on Friday morning.

Green Horse

This is not for problem horses and/or inexperienced riders. Participants should be advanced riders on green horses! This class is for the 4-Her riding a horse 5 years old or younger. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle bit or rawhide bosal (hackamore). Participants will learn the basics of starting a green horse. Many problems can be avoided if done correctly from the very first. Class Limit: 10 - 4-Hers

Horsemanship - Advanced Western

This class is for advanced riders who are ready to train their horses to do advanced maneuvers such as: backing properly, leg yield, side pass, turns on the forehand and rear quarters, lead departures, identifying leads, transitions (walk, trot, lope) on correct lead, and back down (lope, trot, walk, stop, back). Collection of all 3 gaits. Riding a 4-H horsemanship pattern.
No tie downs are allowed. Split reins recommended.

Horsemanship - Beg/Inter Western

This class will introduce leg yielding. It will provide an opportunity to practice smooth transitions from all gaits. Also the importance of leads and how to obtain them will be covered. Three sessions will be provided for continuous instruction.

Horsemanship - Beginning Western

This class is for the beginning 4-H horseman not the beginning horse!  Learn the basic principles of riding, particularly the balanced seat and the use of basic aids at the walk and jog. Based on the needs and riding abilities of the class participants, loping might be introduced. These three sessions will provide continuous instruction that follow the project requirements in “Phase I” or “Basic Horsemanship” of the new 4-H horse materials.

Horsemanship - Expert

This class will be offered by Val Chambers and Andy Shurfey. Prerequisites
are at least 2 years of riding in the Advanced Western horsemanship class at camp. All students will be evaluated prior to class. Limited to 10 students. 3-part class. Things we will do:
1. Review of basic fundamentals often overlooked by instructors or taken for granted that the students know.
2. Advanced body control, Collection, asletisiom, and refinement.
3. Body control, 4 parts of the horse will be emphasized.
4. Head and Neck.
5. Shoulders.
6. Rib cage.
7. Hindquarters.
Lots of emphasis on proper rein and leg control.
Split reins and NO TIEDOWNS.
