Horsemanship - Inter/Adv Western

This class is for the intermediate-advanced 4-H horseman who is ready to learn more advanced skills such as: side passing, importance of supplying exercises, slow turns on the forehand and rear quarters, backing in a straight line, etc. Simple lead changes will be introduced. Riders must attend all three sessions for continuous instruction.

Come sit in the shade and enjoy creating something fun.

No Horse - Knots

Knots are important to proper horsemanship. Learn how to tie the knots used to secure your horse and equipment.

No Horse - Leather work

Learn the basics of working with leather.

No Horse - Macrame

Participants will learn how to make their own tack and accessories with macrame. A number of projects are available to choose from. Bring extra money to camp for macramé and complete a project. Get a Head Start! On Tuesday afternoon & evening, class participants will be able to choose a macrame project, purchase materials and cut cords. Then you’ll be ready to begin braiding your project as soon as you arrive for class!

No Horse - Make a Rope Halter

Participants will be able to purchase the materials necessary to make their own inexpensive, good-looking rope halter for their horse.

Parade Drill

Few sights are more stirring than an equine parade drill. The precision and timing necessary in a drill requires teamwork in addition to skillful riders and obedient and responsive horses. The class meets three times. The first class will meet after supper on Tuesday evening. Participants will learn a drill involving several maneuvers and perform on Friday. This class is for intermediate and advanced riders only. If you sign up for this class you are committing to extra practice in the evenings and to participate in the Friday morning Parade Drill Presentation. Don’t forget a white shirt for your presentation on Friday.

Pole Bending

Participants will learn tips on training their horse for pole bending. Not about running the patterns at top speed but talking about training techniques and ways to improve your times. Tie Downs and roping reins are acceptabl

Problem Horse

Reining

Participants will be introduced to reining fundamentals such as pivots and spins, sliding stops, rollbacks, and flying lead changes. Participants are encouraged to use protective leg gear on their horses (especially the hind legs). Horses & riders need to be well trained in the basics to be in this class. Riders must have taken the Adv. Western A Class on Tuesday in order to participate in this two session class.

Roping - Beginning Roping No Horse

Participants will be introduced to the rope, building a loop, learn parts of the rope, types of ropes, and roping safety. 4-Hers will practice roping a dummy” steer head. Learn how to handle a rope prior to roping from a horse. 8 years or older

Roping - Beginning Roping W/Horse

This will prepare you for Dummy Roping at your county show. Learn how to handle the rope and reins, how to heel a dummy steer, and how to position your horse for the most successful throw.
